FORE Systems' SBA-200 SBus ATM Computer Interface brings ATM connectivityto SPARC-based workstations. Based on the international AsynchronousTransfer Mode (ATM) standard, the SBA-200 meets the local-area networkingneeds of distributed multimedia applications. It provides SPARC-basedworkstations with dedicated connections to ATM switches, including FORESystems' ASX family of ATM switches. Operating at data rates of up to155 Mbps, the SBA-200 is ideal for distributed applications requiringhigh-bandwidth and low-latency networking. The SBA-200 delivers high-quality image, full-motion video, CD-quality audio, and high-speed datacommunication over a single ATM network connection. The SBA-200 SBusAdapter for Sun SPARCstations offers transparent TCP/IP support, FORE'sSVC signaling protocol, an ATM applications programming interface (API),and the networking throughput of FORE's Advanced Cell ProcessingArchitecture. This architecture is a single-slot SBus design based on adedicated Intel i960 RISC processor. Together with special-purpose AAL5and AAl3/4 SAR and DMA hardware, the SBA-200 delivers an ATM adapterarchitecture that redefines "high-performance". The SBA-200 hardwaresupports multiple media types such as 100 Mbps TAXI (multimodefiber),155Mbps SONET OC3 (multimode fiber with SC and ST connectors) andplanned 100 ohm CAT 5 UTP or CAT 5 Screened UTP support. The SBA-200software is ready to support evolving rate control and signalingstandards.
